SOFTWARE USED
Positioning the sharing economy within architecture to establish a new flexible typology of building.
On varying fragmented platforms, we are sharing rides to the grocery store, traveling the world home to home, utilizing leftover spaces in the city for our weekend pop-up shop, and taking a break in a third space. The sharing economy is opening the door for a new approach to the design of building typologies and systems. How do we play into the sharing economy and see it as a market for a ‘soft’ strategic system and new typologies of building to develop and change the way we spatialize housing?
“Design your world right. If you don’t, it will be designed for you” - Arun Sundararajan
My interest lies in the opportunity for the sharing culture to establish a new platform of building that allows for max customization, the most unique and optimized aggregation of spaces, and a solution to the turmoil the culture has had on housing stock, issues of ownership, privacy, city tax and zoning discrepancies. Through occupying and utilizing the air rights above existing buildings to create rentable and shareable spaces, I will be able to give the base consistency with stabilized rents and occupants, build above the existing building to optimize every inch of space and fulfill a 24-7 typology reacting to the needs and evolution of the sharing economy.
