At over 240K gross tonnes, Icon of the Seas is the world’s largest cruise ship and can house upwards of 7,000 guests. The ship is a veritable “city at sea”.

Partnered with Urban Robot Associates, we began closely working together on master planning, venue distribution, flow diagrams, neighborhood guidelines, and material inspiration.  Establishing neighborhood boundaries and rules, and a framework for the venue-specific architects was a crucial part of the design process for both spaces.

We routinely traveled to Miami for client and designer workshops where we would discuss changes, hold design charrettes, and present key elements of all venue designs to adjust and mediate revisions between the architects.  Our team completed detail drawings, construction documents, renderings, and VR walkthroughs all while maintaining and updating the masterplan of these spaces and the entirety of the ship.

Icon of the Seas has completed construction and has had its maiden voyage on January 23, 2024.
